Why didn't they tell me sooner?
I went to the chemist today to get some medications. I have to take a bunch of different pills daily so I guess I go to the chemist pretty regularly and often. Anyway I had a few prescriptions in paper and a couple electronic. I usually get electronic prescriptions but the last time I went to the doctor there was some problem and the electronic wouldn't come through so he gave me paper versions. So I currently have two versions and was fumbling around trying to get what I wanted, and the person at the counter checked the system and saw that I go there regularly, asked if I would like to give them permission to get my electronic scripts in the future and they could keep the paper there too if I wanted...
It was like this huge weight was just lifted off my shoulders, I won't have to try to find the electronic scripts among my messages or bumble around making sure I have the paper with me. I told the staff member (her name badge identified her as an "intern pharmacist") that she made my day, and why didn't anyone there ever offer this to me? (Today wasn't the first time I was struggling to find my prescriptions, and I have been going to the same place for a few years now.)
I was telling M about it later and he was surprised I didn't know about this to ask for it. (And on reflection and thinking about how my mother manages her meds, her local chemist has her prescriptions, of course!) I guess it never occurred to me, and huh, I guess this means I'm old, because it's old people who have all the pre-existing conditions and have to take four or five different pills every day, and are on friendly terms with the staff at their local chemist, right? At least they didn't offer me a Webster pack today!
